Eine Welt ohne Computer, Auto, Bahn, Fernsehen, Strom und flie\u00dfendes Wasser ist f\u00fcr uns schwer vorstellbar. Zumal Fotos fehlen und Gem\u00e4lde oder Grafiken \u00fcberwiegend die Vornehmen und Reichen zeigen. Bilder vom Alltag der einfachen Leute sind dagegen kaum \u00fcberliefert. Doch in vielem waren uns die Menschen von damals n\u00e4her als wir denken. Sie liebten und hassten, stritten, tratschten und plauderten genau wie wir. Und genau wie wir mussten sie ihr Leben organisieren: Sie wuschen, kochten, putzten, erzogen ihre Kinder, arbeiteten und genossen ihre Freizeit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Braunschweig konnte man damals ungemein viel unternehmen. Die Residenzstadt war zur Zeit des Rokoko ungemein quirlig und prunkvoll. Selbst Zarin Katharina II. schw\u00e4rmte in ihren Memoiren: \u00bbDer Hof von Braunschweig besa\u00df damals wahrhaft k\u00f6niglichen Glanz. Aber viele Veranstaltungen waren allen Bewohnern der Stadt zug\u00e4nglich. Sie konnten das Opernhaus am Hagenmarkt, die Kom\u00f6die am Burgplatz und das Marionettentheater besuchen. Sie tanzten Menuett und Polonaise auf den beliebten \u00f6ffentlichen Maskenb\u00e4llen, schlenderten auf den Warenmessen im Fr\u00fchjahr und Herbst von Stand zu Stand, kauften Kleiderstoff oder Schmalzgeb\u00e4ck und staunten \u00fcber den Feuerschlucker. Jeder und jede durfte durch den Schlosspark flanieren, sich im Garten des Grafen Dehn auf der Schiffsschaukel in die Luft schwingen und auf dem Karussell drehen. Die Menschen besuchten Kaffeeh\u00e4user und Schenken.
